February 23, 2013 by Vickie Lester

OSCAR THEN (1958) AND NOW…

February 23, 2013 by Vickie Lester

March 26, 1958: The 30th Academy Awards were big for David Lean and “Bridge on the River Kwai” and for an actress named Joanne Woodward who toted home a statue for her performance in “The Three Faces of Eve”. After the awards she and  her husband, Paul Newman, stopped at a […]

AUNTIE MAME – BEHIND THE SCENES

December 31, 2012 by Vickie Lester

These are stills from the set of AUNTIE MAME (1958) – fabulous art direction for which Malcolm C. Bert was nominated for Academy Award. Recently, Jonathan Adler credited the designs of Mr. Bert as a major influence on his own work. So, that’s the movie which people seem to either love or roll their eyes at, personally I tend toward love. However, there’s no arguing the book, by Patrick Dennis, is a giggling roar of a fun fest.
