Hettem’s on Vermont opening day 1931: Look at those light fixtures! If the Depression hadn’t wiped me out I may have gotten my De Soto out of the garage and headed over to the store. Another of the lesser known buildings by Morgan, Walls, and Clements – a car dealership from the late twenties in the popular Spanish style: -

ART DECO – BULLOCK’S WILSHIRE

Bullock’s Wilshire was the first department store designed to accommodate the car. Huge artfully dressed windows faced the street to attract traffic and the entrance was in the back under a porte-cochere where liveried attendants parked your Nash or Packard.
