“I lost the Oscar to a tracheotomy!” Shirley MacLaine. I remember that night watching Elizabeth win on T.V. in glorious Black and White. She had the best speech. It went something like “I really don’t know how to express my gratitude for this and for everything, I guess all I can say is thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.” No thanking a long list of agents and hair dressers or even husbands. Just something from the heart.
