The Sowdon House is the Lloyd Wright designed residence most people are familiar with on Franklin. I thought it looked creepy even before I knew its history – this one I much prefer – built in 1927:

I guess the engineer who designed the game Tetris grew up here.
Tetris… Gameboy… I remember it well… but I think Alexey Pazhitnov grew up in Moscow 😉
Lol…you are so quick! Love seeing al these houses. Did you ever see his “Usonian house” that was prefab … I saw it on exhibit at the Marin Civic Center (which he designed) and I wanted to move right in!
I never saw the Usonian houses in person– although when I lived in Beachwood Canyon we used to always refer to our “International Style” mid-century as a failed Usonian. The living room had exposed beams and floor to ceiling glass. Really impressive, and then the rest of the house was pokey and dark… Oh! And all the plumbing was buried in the foundation slab, yikes. Thank god we were just renting.
I would have loved to have seen that house in the canyon. The Usonian I saw didn’t have any pluming at all…it was just a giant model you could walk into. MY dream house.
