Okay, I’ll probably have to spend a couple of weeks in purgatory for this one — but, Cecil B. was… somewhat grandiose and cantankerous… especially with Edith Head.
This is an early effort by Miss Head done while assisting costume designer, Travis Banton. The marshmallow dress from THE GOLDEN BED:
(A valentine to you, Susan Claassen, star of A CONVERSATION WITH EDITH HEAD, and Paddy Calisto co-writer of the play and author of the biography, EDITH HEAD’S HOLLYWOOD)
Thank goodness he didn’t want them toasted. 🙂
Ummmm, was there not a budget?
If it was a Cecil B. picture the ladies were probably wearing silk lingerie stitched by french nuns while a string quartet played on stage to set the mood. His productions were extravagant. 😉
Thank you Vickie for the beautiful “Valentine”! I am so appreciative of your support. xo
Thank you for posting this. This is one that does not see a lot of day light. Its all about Grace Kelly, Bette Davis and so on. This might just have to be a costume for next year. Love it.
I think in Paddy Calisto’s book there’s a long bit about Edith making “confection” costumes – it was nerve wracking…
