The building was first owned by Ince, then Cecil B., then Selznick, then Desilu…
Selznick must have liked the Colonial architectural style.
Although, with those arches the home is more Regency or Georgian…
David O. Selznick posing in his office in 1947 – at the time he was still married to Irene.
Is his house still there? I have been to the old studio… You remember when Mammy, Polk and Prissy arrive at the new big house in Atlanta that Rhett built for Scarlett and Mammy says “Lawsy we sho is rich now!” ?That was shot at the garden gate leading up to the Studio administration building right on the sidewalk of Washington Blvd. They had a matte painting hiding the offices.
Oh, the matte paintings — that’s a lost art. I wonder if I could get my hands on some examples… The house is still there, it’s been sandblasted down to the original brick. I might be mistaken but I think it was designed by Roland Coate – one of my favorite S. Cal. architects.
