This is Gertrude Ederle, the first woman to swim the English Channel in 1926. I believe she’s covered in grease as insulation against the cold water…
Here she is cleaned up and coaching movie stars…
“SWIM, GIRL, SWIM.”
Record entries in the trans-Derwent swimming races and interest in the picture, “Swim, Girl,. Swim,” has marked the presentation of a silver cup to the winner of the ladles’ race by Miss Bebe Daniels to commemorate the screening of her latest picture. “Swim, Girl, Swim,” which Is a Paramount production, is a genuine regatta attraction. It deals with aquatics and youth, and features a championship swimming race which takes place at the starting point for the famous Catalina Channel swim. Bebe Daniels, the athletic comedienne, Is cast as a co-ed at college, and her friends all believe that she cannot swim. When the big race arrives, however, she proves them wrong by winning in splendid style. Gertrude Ederle, the champion Channel swimmer, appears in support of Miss Daniels, and Janies Hall’s the leading man. “Swim, Girl,” Swim” opens at the Strand Theatre at the matinee to-day, and it will be limited to to- day, to-morrow, and Wednesday. The supporting feature will be the First National comedy – drama, “Stepping Along,” featuring Johnnie Hines. To- day will mark the first presentation in Hobart of Paramount’s short feature service. The programme will include a long overseas gazette, a topical Australian newsreel, and the first of the comedy features, “Inkwell Imps.” A feature of the night performances will be the playing of selections from “Madame Pompadour” in the lounge of the theatre.

Have we had the decorators in?
My, it’s looking mighty smart in here…
Now – is it ESP or something more explicable but I was looking at Bebe Daniels shots just this morning – how peculiar.
Oh and the Dandy used to swim like a butterfly and sting like citron presse when he was a young thing!
Yours ever
The Perfumed Dandy.
We had the decorators in this morning… I’m glad you like it!
It’s a gorgeous sunny day here – one of those glistening days we get in the winter – no smog, temp. in the high seventies. I’d go jump in my neighbor’s pool but it would either require dolphin grease or a wetsuit.
Oh, oh, oh, please weave one of your spells over Bebe Daniels and scent and other lives in other times.
Thank you a bushel and peck and a kiss upon your perfumed neck,
V
