Ah yes the vision of the entirely automated home.So many Worlds Fair type Expos had that sort of thing.I have always found them very fascinating.Their vision of the future is now part of the past of the future.I suppose however some of us are nearer the computer controlled energy saving home of the future and that is a good thing.

Oh how I lament the demise of the Exposition Universelle. Once they gave us Crystal Palaces, Trocaderos, Arts Nouveau and Deco and the ever just about to automated home.
Now they have become partially aggrandised car showrooms.
Pity.

Why, whatever can you mean? LA is home to the Car Show… Film Expo… and our beloved Comic-con (which looks as bad as it sounds) – I have to go poke my nose into a book about Case Study Houses now and calm down.

Sumptuous digs! Some part of me is amazed that we still have actual bedrooms with beds and furniture when so many other parts of our lives have changed. I often wonder if the hammock sleepers south of the equator have better backs. 🙂
That sort of bold wall paper in the first one is making a comeback. I actually really like that room. It’s a little bit of a time traveler’s room. haha! The second one made me smile. I knew it was a set. It’s a fantasy of what people at that time thought was glamourous. The round bed– too funny. Now you can probably only find those in Las Vegas Brothels.
The round beds were big in art deco sets – I think I would be confused as to where to put my head! Oh, but the space…

The master Polglase. I must admit to adoring that, not sure what that says about me! Such flair, such elan. Sheer fantasy. Fantastique! Love Alfred Junge’s work for Powell and Pressburger. Fantasy and reality intermingling (the photography, so beautiful, enhances it).
Curiously, the post’s title reminds me of visiting the set to Robert Altman’s Popeye in Malta in 1993. Walking amid the unreal (love the design in that odd film, Nilsson songs too!)
That was an ODD film. I only saw it once, when it came out. Should I watch it again?

You definitely should, yes. I can’t decide if it’s a *good* film or not but it’s so unlike anything else! Altman, Jules Pfieffer, Nilsson, Shelley, etc that’s already an awesomely peculiar line-up, and it looks off-kilter and pretty. I liked it more than 3 Women anyway! Having said that I’ve only seen the latter once when I was pretty young so maybe I’d think differently about that now…
“Our beloved Comic-con (which looks as bad as it sounds)”. Bwahahaha! Too cruel, Too funny. Tears of laughter! I was into comics between 8 and 13 (and I got “Bwahahaha!” from an intentionally funny, parodic one, fact fans) but comics conventions look like a little glimpse into Hell!
And what’s with that “CosPlay” thing?! Nice for children…but for adults? Shivers! I don’t doubt some ladies look good in that stuff but otherwise not a good look from what I’ve seen! Oops. I’m wicked! To each their own but it gives me chills – and not the good kind 🙂 Soooo embarrassing!

Whenever I see a lot of diaphanous drapery I think dust – and dark shiny floors… so difficult to keep that way for the camera.
I have a neighbor who went solar (much easier here than in Wales) and I think their energy bills must amount to pocket change.
