Yay, Vickie! That’s wonderful news!
Wonderful tempered with “what next?” – you, Madame Author, know exactly what I’m talking about 😉
If all goes as expected ‘next’ will come with copy editing, cover design, this department, that department, proof approval, months of waiting for the book to actually arrive in stores, and then a staggering amount of marketing, much of it paid for by you. Invitations to sign books, attend conferences, book club meets, high teas, and if you’re the wannabe hermit type (like me) it’s generally your worst nightmare, which will make the mini-bars in hotel rooms look good–like a first aid station–for the first time in your life. But I know you’ll survive, thrive, and make it all look sublimely easy, even if you’re doubting.
Just remember, this is what you love to do. 🙂

I say a Rock Hudson Elizabeth Taylor Chocolate Martini is in order. Here is the recipe they cooked up in Marfa Texas during the making of Giant in 1955.
“Rock and I hit it off right away and acted like a pair of kids. The heat, humidity, and dust [in Marfa] were so thoroughly oppressive we had to bolster our spirits any way we could. So we stayed out drinking all night and luckily were young enough and resilient enough to go straight to the set in the morning with fresh complexions and never even bags under our eyes. During our toots, we concocted the best drink I ever tasted – a chocolate martini, made with vodka, Hershey’s syrup and Kahlua. How we survived I’ll never know.”
