Just fabulous! Nice use of colour on the ladies (the warmth of their faces contrasting with the lovely blacks and whites, and then the RED *pops*! Wonderful crimson hat!) and wow! that spectacular cityscape in the background. A photo from Parkinson’s artistic peak period. I saw a pretty fascinating documentary entitled Alias, Norman Parkinson (I think) a short while ago, which is well worth seeing if you can find it.
Thank You ! What an absolutely gorgeous image. And an intriguing little tableau. Who’s the girl in the corner ? Has she shown up late and found herself the subject of the lively gossip session ? Shouldn’t she be the one wearing a scarlet hat? Thematically, reminds me of “The Women”, “The Group”, even “Sex and the City” (or should I say “Girls”…) Iconic !
That is it exactly! Grace Coddington of Vogue talks about how influential Parkinson was on her — and you can see it in the narrative photos she brings to the magazine.
My mom had a thing about pearls, it must have come from that era. When I turned sixteen she gave me a strand, and the grand-daughters too… And you’re right, the combination is very chic.

Now I’ll have to watch the Parkinson documentary linked above, as well as look into Grace Coddington. So much to learn !!!
It’s a fascinating documentary and for more of Grace Coddington (love her!) watch for a documentary on Vogue called “The September Edition”.
I love what every single person here is wearing. Pearls and white gloves are smashing.

Does this make me old? I have a thing about pearls, as in, I love to wear them.
My mother always told me pearls should be worn often or they lose their luster – good work 🙂
Mine must be extraordinarily lustrous then!
I will have to take heed and resurrect mine 😉
