Actually I was thinking a simple ‘hooray’ really is inadequate! Do you have a place outside where you can do a victory dance, twirl around till you fall down all dizzy and then just lie there looking up at the sky in a state of pure happiness? If not, swim those laps and perhaps bounce on a bed 😀
Woot Woot!!! How fabulous to come back to Beguiling after a few days absence (went to a wedding) to find this FANTASTIC news. You must be over the moon…HE must be over the moon. What an amazing time in your life when promise opens the door and says, “Please do step inside”…
I think the head of the fashion department is Raf Simons – hence the shoe pictured above. Over the moon and taking a big orbital swing around Jupiter right now.

Things haven’t turned out too shabbily for Mr. Simons, now have they? Maybe the Kid will be the next LA boy done good after Rick Owens and will be taking the reins of Dior in a few years!
PS. Am a big Ann D fan myself. Sadly, can no longer afford her! Will need the Kid to start a budget line!
Congrats! Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp will celebrate its 350th anniversary and 50th years of the Fashion Department, a number of exciting events will take place from the 8th of September …. Excited for your son, I am sure he’ll enjoy Antwerp (and Belgium) and all over Europe, I am afraid you’ve to spare a “huge” travel budget for him, excellent exploration. “Antwerp Six” and many designers grad. from there are marvelous. Really happy for you and him. Summer is exciting too, many musical events of all kinds …. best time of the year to start!
Thank you! He’s sent pictures of Antwerp and it it’s beautiful. He managed to pay for the first ticket himself by selling clothes he designed and made over the Internet!
Haha, very good. He will soon enjoy the famous Belgian chocolates, beer, mussels, red wine, endives, Belgian sprouts …. ah, the most important thing is he’ll pick a diamond for you, Antwerp, mmmm, still remains a leading diamond trade centre of the world. I don’t always go to Antwerp but certainly in the whole July as sales goes on, best place to buy clothes, shoes, etc….
It really is a ZOWIE – and I imagine in course of the next four years I’ll be knocking at your door at a certain point and requesting a stroll through Kensington Gardens.
He doesn’t speak the language, as far as I can tell the next thing on the agenda is a three week intensive course given for foreign students to qualify for their visa. And, for a time you were right about St. Martins in London, but the Antwerp Six won out!
Well, I’m just around the corner (well, actually a 3 hour easy-jet flight away), so if there’s ever an emergency of any kind, give him my email or even my mobile to keep in his phone. 🙂
Mike’s mother was Belgian, his nephew lives on the border and we have a friend/neighbour who happens to be the Belgian ambassador to Spain, so if ever the need arises, we can probably assist.
Once upon a time I was a young student, unaware you couldn’t drive in Spain with just your driver’s license. You need to carry id/passport too. They were about to take me to an actual police station. I was sweating cold and replaying prison movies in my head. While I was wondering if I’d be killed with a sharpened tooth-brush handle I remembered I had a number in my phone for the French consul. One call ended the whole episode and sent me on my way. It’s always good to have a network.
Good God!
Your number is in my phone and I’m sending the contact to him.
You are something else, and I am privileged to be part of you network.
I know you don’t go in for this huggy stuff – but I’m sending you an enormous embrace right over the North Pole and down into Spain (and please do share it with Mike).
Hooray!! I knew it!! With you in the wings of his young brilliant life, how could he not get in? One of my very dear friends lived in Antwerp for close to nine years, she’s lived all over Europe, but Antwerp remains her absolute favorite city. It has everything. It’s in a prime location. He’ll adore it.
Three cheers for that kid of yours!!! 😀
I’m so happy for you and your family. 2013 is really shaping up to be a grand year for you, Vickie!!!
All my happy love,
Lisa

We just supplied the environment – he did all the work. I’m still buzzing over the news, and I keep looking at the texts he sent. And, I expect a very avant-garde wardrobe in my future! 🙂
Thank you! I don’t say this often – but this is THRILLING. A dream come true for him, and from my perspective a wonderful opportunity.

The young man’s gift and dedication has – almost inevitably – got him in and now… The Sky’s the Limit!
How wonderful for you, Vickie, just don’t let yourself float so high we’ll find it hard to bring you back down to Earth! Let sunshine fill you, marvellous woman. 🙂
Two hundred students sat for the exam (I think it was one of two for entrance in the Fall semester) and he said a couple of hours after the second day of the examination all the students gathered in an auditorium and he said he couldn’t believe it when the Headmistress read out his name… OMG… OMG!
Congratulations to him.
Thank you, Edward! And apologies for being scarce on the weblog — I’ll be back at it tomorrow. If I can sit still long enough 😉
Hooray!
I can barely contain myself! I think I’ll go swim some laps.

Three Cheers of that Fabulous Kid!!!
Nine hour time difference between Belgium and LA – but the cheer transcends all 🙂
That’s fantastic news. 🙂
Delivered via text!
Yay, that’s such fantastic news and well done to the Kid!!! And happy celebrations to you all!
Celebrated with a chocolate croissant and a glass of milk and after the texting was done fell into a deep sleep 🙂

Outstanding news 😀
I was guessing Britain, but someone says Antwerp in the comments above, how did that happen? Does he already speak Flemish?

…and is still floating on a cloud of happiness….
What wonderful news. Congrats to him, and you (and the Mister too). 😀

Fabulous news! Congrats!
I’m waiting for my first pair of conceptual PJ’s 😉
hurrah!!!
shall we come again for tea and share some english anecdotes before he Flies Away?
(you did mean Royal Academy of Art in London? or was it Some Other European Country with Royals?)
Yes!
A proper one, with scones : )
Artesis, at the Royal Academy of Art in Belgium. Where, I think the elderly king (Saxe-Coburg-Gotha) just abdicated in favor of his son.
gosh.
yes to scones.
sadly we know nada about belgium – just passed through on the train between paris and amsterdam, on business (was that belgium – hmmm – not sure now)
He’ll be happy to tell us all about it, and we’ll be happy eating ginger scones… 😉
GET OUT!! That is fantastic news! I am very happy for him – and for you, too!
