I like the novel but despite the changes – or because of them – I *love* the movie. William Powell and Myrna Loy are perfect! What a great screen relationship Nick and Nora have even if in “real life” the amount of booze they consume’d probably be lethal 😉 Hey, can’t forget Asta (or the sequels in which, After The… apart, the titles suggest *Nick* is the Thin Man!) either. 🙂
First scene of the Thin Man, at a bar, 8 martinis each for Nick and Nora – I think. Someone can check me on that 😉

The older I get the more I appreciate how unique and off-balance and funny they are.
Myrna Loy always reminded me of my grandmother. Love her.
Poise and range and great comedic timing. Amazing.
I really really really hope they do not go through plans for remaking the Thin Man movies. Nobody can top the chemistry of Powell and Loy in those roles.
Last year they were gearing up to remake them… they were casting, and then it petered out.
I know … and as much as I like Johnny Depp’s acting, I’m still glad it fizzled out.
Perhaps the studio sensed something in the air, period piece, Johnny D… The Lone Ranger… 😉
Yeah. Depp is great with quirky roles, but Nick Charles has to have that rare quality of being debonair and yet somehow also an everyman. There’s an elegance to Powell’s droll delivery that I can’t see Depp capturing. Depp can look wonderfully sophisticated, but that bohemian vibe still comes through.

we once found dog tags (from actual dogs, not military personnel or dodgy chelsea-club-dwellers) that said Nick and Nora on the upper west side.
you could tell so much about the owners from such nomenclature choices.
These really are some of the best movies, aren’t they? They sure don’t make ’em like this anymore.
They’re skewed to a different audience/demographic — slim pickings for grownups 😉
