Who doesn’t like Mr Vincent Price? Idiots, that’s who! The melliflous voice, the sardonicism, the wit, the intelligence, the campery, the pretty darn good acting… He appears to being going for the Fonz meets Melvyn Douglas look there. I like it!
Does anyone remember The Ghost and Mrs. Muir? There was a movie with Rex Harrison, but I remember there being a tv series, with Hope Lange and Edward Mulhare (I had to look it up.) I thought of the series when I saw the first pic. The pipe, I suppose! Your posts always draw the most curious associations from me, V. 🙂
I remember both! Although, I preferred the movie 😉 (I know, you’re not surprised). Mr. Price does look very dashing. Does anyone smoke pipes anymore? Really, I think the last time I saw anyone smoking one (and I mean of the legal variety) was in the late 1960s.
I remember the tv series with Edward Mulhare, S. K.! I saw it about the same time as Mr M was in – cough – Knight Rider. 🙂 It was only years later that I saw the movie on which that sitcom was based with Gene Tierney as Mrs Muir and ol’ Rex! Hope and Jean, lovely ladies… I remember Mr Mulhare’s jaunty hat rather than his pipe tho’!
George: I remember being very taken with the hopelessly romantic aspect of the cantankerous seafaring ghost falling in love with the comely widow…

Whereas I was just the right age – Eight! I have very little interest in cars but one with the voice of William “1776, St Elsewhere” Daniels and a finely tuned sense of sarcasm? Even now I say – Bring It On! The series, however, Mr Daniels apart could charitably be described as mindless 🙂 Although it has a ludicrously exciting and melodramatic opening voice-over by Richard Baseheart, so it has that and a camp tart-humored talking car going for it!

And I mean not only, of course, Mr Price, but the parlour game too… those seemingly heartfelt kind words by the host at the conclusion, the performance by the mystery guest, the fact that ladies remain seated, but gentlemen rise to shake Mr Price’s hand… the mileu.
‘The past is a foreign country, they do things differently there…” in in this case rather more nicely methinks.
