WELCOME TO MY COUCH – AND THE ROSY GLOW OF DAWN

from the couchPumpkins, babies, and darlings –

In my haste yesterday I forgot to say what happened. Let me preface this tale by saying I am not very good at sitting still.

So, I decided I needed a doctor’s mandate to sit on my derriere all day and eat potato chips and swill ginger beer. And, to that end I careened into a large heavy piece of furniture and got a spiral fracture down the length of my little toe. I thought those suckers were vestigial – who knew? When it happened I thought, “that’s nothing”, so I ran some important errands – but as the pain didn’t abate but only intensified I was… urged to seek medical attention. Upshot, staying off my feet for three days, crutches and funny shoe for a couple of weeks. Bone will take 4-6 weeks to heal.
.

That is my silly story.

Yes, I am camped out here – and today and tomorrow will be re-posts. Today a few witty remarks by Noel Coward and Graham Greene. Tomorrow a little overview on the career of an extraordinary costume designer, Walter Plunkett.

It you don’t want to see old stuff, skedaddle until Friday when we look at star portraits with a burnished, velvety, luminously dark glow…

Eeee. Little toe pain=big pain. But I am glad it is not something worse and will heal on its own with the aid of the funny shoe.
    Bisous nonetheless…

That, and I think the quart of yogurt I consumed over the past two days… calcium!

Vickie,I thought I had missed a post, but it turns out it was you.Well get well soon and allow youself to be cosseted by The Mr,nay demand it.As for ginger beer its a personal favourite and true nectar of the gods which I credit with miraculous healing powers.Actually I did not know that you had it in America. Was it a British invention?I dont know and if it was not it should have been.I can imagine,The Empire running on equal mixtures of Imperialism, steam, military and diplomatic might and ginger beer.Just the sort of thing to drink when sequestered from the heat of an Indian summer in Simla.Anyway thats my fantasy.Get well soon.

Ginger beer, ginger ale, it all tastes good to me — temperature here today is comparable to Simla — however, we don’t have the high humidity… Thank goodness!

    Ouch indeed.
I know that stubbed foot pain, so am extrapolating!
May I say I do like that curvaceous wooden chair of yours by the window. Quite seventeenth century (late) English.
Now I’m spying on the afflicted.
    How rude.
    Yours ever.

I should flip it upside down and see if I can detect any maker’s marks — in a couple of weeks 😉 .

To be fair it’s more of an early 18th century affair… a Queen Anne style piece. Which of course means something entirely different in furniture to architecture… and I think on either side of the Atlantic.
If it were to be an original, or even a Victorian reproduction of quality, well that would be a lovely discovery.
Though as it is it’s a rather choice chaise.
        Yours ever
