“Designing Woman” playing at the State on Broadway – 1957:
“Designing Woman” – directed by Vincente Minnelli – starring Lauren Bacall and Gregory Peck:
A lovely apartment in the city, New York City, for fashion designer Bacall and new husband, sports reporter, Peck… It was a box office success, and I think — a really uneven romantic comedy — but the beginning of the movie on the West Coast makes it worth watching.
Vicki, I walked down that stretch of Broadway today! It really is such a beautiful part of town, even in all its faded glory but the glory is still there! I love Miss Bacall’s stunning blouse (is that the right word?).
Isn’t it cool??? I like looking past the horrible signage and seeing the stunning buildings below. I think my friend at http://idealbild.wordpress.com/ would call it a blouse with lantern sleeves. Wait, yes, I just confirmed it with my design student nephew – it’s a lantern sleeve. Hugs, V
She better not try and fry and egg with at sleeve or her lantern will be LIT! I was lucky enough to see Lauren Bacall and Barry Nelson in 1967 on Broadway (Hi Patti!) in ‘Cactus Flower”. After the show I stood by the stage door to see Miss B. Didn’t ask for an autograph…too many people. Then I stepped off the sidewalk and turned to be face to face with Tony Perkins bearing down on my on a bicycle! He nearly hit me as I stood there gaping. I was in teenage heaven! Another time I will tell you about running into Mildred Dunnock and her “boys” in Central Park.
I am getting a Hugh Jackman vibe out of that last picture … *sigh*
A nice vibe, indeed!
Dearest V
How pretty Lauren looks here. But as Lanier has pointed out, perhaps not correctly attired for any cuisine preparation!
Yours ever
