UNTITLED AND M.A.D. QUESTIONS FOR CHANDLER BURR ~ A Series of Interviews

Literature informs the soul, even in Hollywood. I found this out when I read Chandler Burr’s novel, “You Or Someone Like You”. Imagine my delight when I found that, not only was he being interviewed by Lanier of Scents Memory, but that he had written three books on the art of perfume. Why is it that some of my favorite writers find their way into literature through scent?

“Literature informs the soul”, yes it does, and anyone who doesn’t believe that is immediately suspect (well, worse really!). Harsh? Possibly. True? Indubitably! 😉 Thanks for the link to young Master Lanier’s doubtless excellent piece… Now, I have to read that novel…

I think you’d like it — it’s a look at Hollywood from a completely different angle.

Oh… how Wonderful you are! By the way his first book, “A Separate Creation” is not about scent. It is about genetics and the origin of homosexuality in the individual. It is now on my reading list! I think you will really enjoy The Perfect Scent and The Emperor of Scent. He is such a wonderful writer!

That was slap dash of me! I will pick up a copy. And, did you ever read Paul Monette’s book of autobiographical essays, “Last Watch of the Night”?

No I haven’t read it…..is it about watching the Tonight Show? Oh I just couldn’t resit that! I will take a look at it.

It’s kind of a tough, but beautiful read about the AIDS years…

Bravo for reblogging this really fine piece. I never would have found Lanier’s writing if it wasn’t for Beguiling! Mr. Kaplan’s either but I have to stick around here apparently if I want to see more (hint, hint). 😉

PS. August is for reading…I just slipped through John Irving’s “In one person” in five days! Woot, woot!

Lanier and George are writers that just whisk you away to other worlds. I know the interview series is going to be continued on other perfume blogs which is fascinating – and George is working on a few pieces for Beguiling. Hint taken!
