Oh, I love that picture! I hate smoking but the flame from a lit cigarette or smoke skirling from one looks sublime on film or in painting. David looks marvellous in that image; the jacket, the crisp shirt, the elegant gloves – handsome man, too! Excellent find, Ms Vickie.
I wonder if he’s holding a tiny flashlight in his hand? It’s pretty bright for a match flame.

It’s funny, there are no cigarettes in public places now — and then it was so prevalent. In movies you can’t show anyone smoking or you get an immediate R rating. In Saving Mr. Banks, Tom Hanks could only be shown stubbing out a cigarette…
It becomes difficult to show the way things really were if that is what happens.
