Don’t give a rodent’s posterior portion for football? Then join me!

Heaven Can Wait

Now, don’t get me wrong. I have two big brothers who taught their vertically challenged little sister how to be quick and sneaky on the basketball court, and to NOT, most definitely NOT to close my eyes and flinch when I saw a fast tennis serve coming my way. But football? I’d rather count grains of sand than sit through the Super Bowl. Seriously, there is something very soothing to quantification. It’s kinda like knitting… I think the only Super Bowl game I found riveting was fictional, in “Heaven Can Wait” — remember that movie?

You know me, I’m very much of the faith “whatever floats your boat” but, I’d much prefer to think of something lovely to do this Sunday than sit around and watch television. Like chat with you, or go to Whole Foods and have the aisles to myself, or:

I’m sitting by the fire and I can half-hear Ingrid Bergman playing Golda Meir coming from the tv in the study… Did you read Dylan Farrow in the NYT? Very strong piece…

Funny you should say that, because the Mister and I were just discussing…!

I am writing, reading, and watching old movies this morning. Then I will have some tea and watch the Puppy Bowl. I love football, so I most definitely WILL be tuning in to the big game. By myself, as my mister is working.

Whatcha reading? My Mister is recording the game so he can watch the highlights. His home team is playing, to do otherwise would be blasphemy!

I am reading a few things: The Georgian Star (which is about William and Caroline Herschel) by Michael D. Lemonick; New Grub Street by George Gissing; Travels in England During the Reign of Queen Elizabeth, and Fragment Regalia; Or Observations on Queen Elizabeth, Her Times and Favourites (which is two books in one) by Sir Robert Naunton and Paul Hentzner.
The best thing about Super Bowl Sunday (other than the fact that I enjoy football) is that it gives me an excuse to eat junk food!

I love Heaven Can Wait. The remake of Here Comes Mr. Jordan, changing its sport from boxing to football, was inspired.

    • February 2, 2014

I liked them both…but I too LOVE Heaven Can Wait. I want to watch it again, and I can add it to my 70s series!

Vickie, well being a Brit American football does not feature much in my life {to say the least}.I in fact hate all sports. The excitement surrounding British soccer is extraordinary and I just cannot understand the manic cavortings on the field when a team does well. For that matter I cannot stand most soccer players either who with a few possible exceptions when interviewed sound as if they are a whole hamper short of a picnic.I will not get onto their very public private lives for fear that the rising steam from my ears might turn my sitting room into a sauna.

Although soccer is my main dislike I have not even got onto the extreme boredom and incomprehension of other sports.

Well what am I doing now.Oh have just woken up in the afternoon and am mentally preparing myself for hopping sleepless around a hospital ward all night.Lovely.

It has grown extremely quiet here – that’s what happens when a 100 million people across the nation decide to turn on the television 😉 .
Take care on the wards tonight.

Oh Dear most people seem to have had a more interesting day than me.Boo Hoo….

  6. February 2, 2014

We have an expat orphan friend coming over later to watch the game with us but at least we have the rest of the day to do whatever, before the game. Personally, I want to curl up with today’s NYT’s but that’s another mystery to be solved because we can’t find our copy. Others in the building have been delivered . . . the whole day is out of sync. You have fun!

    • February 2, 2014

Having a wonderful time, but I mistimed it and hit the grocery store an hour before kick-off, there was a run on avocados 😉 .

  7. February 2, 2014

I will be sitting in front of the Game, but with my laptop while I catch up on my blog reading.

Plus eating great high-fat snacks, which I will regret tomorrow.

    • February 2, 2014

      The best kind of snacks!

  8. February 2, 2014

I’m sitting in front of the TV, with the Superbowl on. Of course, I pay attention to the commercials (pretty much disappointing except for a wonderful one by Coke) and don’t give a hoot about the game.

  9. February 2, 2014

No football here and no snogging neither 😀 Just a regular Sunday.

    Dearest V
    Hello again.
    It seems so long.
Such fun to read with (almost totally) detached amusement of the Super Bowl. Amazing how this behemoth of an event in the cultural super power of the Western World makes barely a ripple here. For football is soccer and we have been transfixed this weekend with rugby and tennis anyway.
A strange old world that we are told gets smaller every day, but that still remains quite big for all they say.
    Yours ever
    The Perfumed Dandy
