A Gripping Life, it’s hard for a man to say this without seeming smarmy, creepy, or as if he’s hitting on you (if that’s possible on the internet!) but what’s this “at the peak of my beauty” thing? Judging from your image you take a wonderful picture now! You look lovely. Er, see, what did I tell you? Smarmy!

we quit many years ago (hypnotist – north london – 3 hour session – fascinating) but still like to photograph smokers – there’s something So MGM about them (when they’re beautiful).

The only reason The Dandy ever took up smoking and then – as he is constantly reminded – rather amateurishly, was because of the cinema.
Granted it was the bruised lips of Jean Paul Belmondo and the architectural smoke of German expressionism that drew me in… but there you see Marlene builds the bridge between the New World and the Old, spreading glamour and cigarette smoke wherever she went.
I must confess that I have yet to find the recent perfume dedicated to her anything other than an anti climax… hey ho, we may not have the scents but we have the head shots.

The Perfumed Dandy
The cinema makes so many things look seductive, that aren’t! I have to say I saw “Manon of the Spring” last night and watching a supermodel frolic through the hills of Provence even goat herding looked like a marvelous pastime 😉
I read the book over and over along with some other ancient volumes from my parents – “Hans Brinker, or the Silver Skates” and the “Adventures of Perrine”. Was it a TV series?
German TV made it really rather well on film, on location and in German, we got it dubbed as part of some European co-production.
I know other language groups are very accepting of dubbed films and tv, but they really have never done the business in Blighty. “Heidi” is just about the only example I can remember…
