Selling Yourself: the Hardest Sell

Coddington, Grace

There’s a difference between talent and celebrity, a difference between earning recognition and exploiting the media…

When Grace, creative director for Vogue was told about the filming of The September Issue, she had this to say:

My reaction to this intrusive idea was naturally one of horror, because my feeling has always been that people should concentrate on their jobs and not all this fashionable “I want to be a celebrity” shit.

Grace: A Memoir
by Grace Coddington

I found the film, Ms Coddington herself and her memoir all entirely fascinating. And dare I say? The quote I pulled…should be engraved in stone, which is kind of interesting (bringing the conversation back to my self-promoting shameless self) considering that in a sense—my novel—is partially about the corrosive effects of maintaining a public image.

Love her! And I think I was the only person who walked out of The Devil Wears Prada thinking Ms. Hathaway’s character was an ungrateful snip…

Oooh, is it FASHION day at Beguiling? Could every Sunday be fashion day? *smiles winsomely in a pretty please way*
Grace, talks walks and breathes like the fierce redhead she is. The industry would not be what it is without her vision.

And YES on Grace, what a “wow” she is!

Hope you are not feeling corroded 😉 I don’t find your promotions shameful. They are most entertaining.

Thank you, it’s fine line, and I always hear my big brothers and sister’s admonition somewhere in the back of my head, “Vickie! Don’t be a pest!”

        Awwwww…..did they really say that?
