Forgiveness, I blame the horrible pun on a tenacious headache. The Castle has a John Lautner guest house and Mr. Moby likes his architecture, hence a blog: Moby Los Angeles Architecture Blog.
And, the castle has a really nice view – when I was a kid I used to skirt down past the house and hike the ridge above Lake Hollywood.
Called Wolf’s Lair after its first owner, L. Milton Wolf, a real estate developer, it is a house with old Hollywood flourishes that Norma Desmond would embrace. On the hill overlooking the castle, mounted on a tall pole, is a lamp shaped like a crescent moon, so there will always be the reflection of a moon in the pool, a perfect example of 1920s Hollywood romance. I’ll buy you the moon, baby.

“On the hill overlooking the castle, mounted on a tall pole, is a lamp shaped like a crescent moon, so there will always be the reflection of a moon in the pool…” What an incredibly romantic touch.
I was a horrible child and used to peer (as much as I could) into this garden every chance I got. Leave it to me not to notice the whimsey, or the romance!
A Headache!? Get Miss Lester a bromide ….and put some Gin in it!
Make it a filthy dirty martini, three olives, and I will be the happiest girl in town!
Auntie Mame says olives take up too much room in a martini glass!
Auntie Vickie says three vodka soaked olives are my idea of brunch 😉
It is brunch time right now!
So it is! A toast to you, darling.
Bottoms UP!
Two more olives and that’s your five a day!
As for that spectacular house and garden for childhood lurking – fantastic!
(I could easily eat ten olives a day, or more!) Speaking of childhood lurking my nephew was on your turf last week having a portfolio review at FIT and visiting Parsons – he loved NY – and brought me home a very designer-y T-shirt crushed into a cube.
Now THAT’s a house!
Mr. Moby has been known to walk down the hill where his house is perched to the venue when he performs in Hollywood—very cool.
We lived down the street from there (on Creston) during the late ’60s thru early ’70s. Always our favorite ‘house’ in the neighborhood!
You’ll remember this, I think I might have been mistaken… So, you know where Creston dead ends? That little circle? I distinctly recall a house, a white one story, with kind of Liberace Greco-roman statuary out front. I was there a few weeks ago and it had disappeared—I think tastefully remodeled into a nice modern dwelling. Did I get that right or was it on another street? Thank you! V
Hmm. That doesn’t sound familiar, sorry. I might recognize a photo (if one existed?). Do you think we could talk Moby into throwing a present-and-past neighbors (and curious and fans) open house? 😉
