Hi Susannah, Do you happen to know the address for this Wallace Neff house in RSF? I’m a local architect and have been searching for it as I’d like the current owners to place on the Mills Act list for preservation. Any help would be appreciated!
Hi Ed, this house is located at 201 Tilden Avenue in Brentwood, CA. It still stands, much the same on the exterior. Three cheers for architectural preservation!

Thanks for the information! That house in Brentwood is beautiful. I believe Wallace Neff also designed a house for Madame Galli-Curci in Rancho Santa Fe (a semi-rural area 30 miles north of San Diego) which are those pics you posted. I’m trying to find THAT house to see if it can preserved and am having a hard time getting details or a specific location.
The Ameita Galli-Curci home in Rancho Santa Fe (RSF) was razed several years ago. I know because I lived in that wonderful home from 1978-1989. It was located on Las Planideras, just off Via de la Valle coming out of Fairbanks Ranch. That was a great home and I enjoyed many years there as a teenager thru college. My parents sold it around 1989 (worst decision ever) and the new owners tore it down and built a sprawling monstrosity. And I’ll be the one in the HUGE floppy straw hat to keep the sun off my delicate hide. The truth is I do wear a lot of hats, and the reason is I know about the destructive force of the sun and I can’t stand wearing sunscreen. Now, if you could formulate one that was scented with green tea and jasmine, that would be another story.

Neff was especially good with the indoor/outdoor aspect of the California Spanish — it’s all about the light!

What a beautiful, gracious home. That would never fly here in the Midwest, but…gosh, I’d love it anyhow. 😉
