A lovely young friend recently gave me a hot new piece of science fiction to read (and you know, my darlings, I’m all for whatever floats your literary boat). However, I’m afraid I had the same reaction to the book as I do to Game of Thrones…I can’t get past the ridiculous names. Why can’t fantasy/sci-fi characters be named Laura and Steve?

    The answer Vickie/Zerinnia Fresnex Gladiatrix Queen of the Fourth Zone in the Dimension of Quolm is that those of us who are not of this Earth often have names rather more startling than your banal Terran nomenclature and SF/Fantasy writers tap into that… Oops! Forget I said that – I am, of course, ENTIRELY Human! 🙂 I don’t herald from Gallifrey!
