Ah, Cary and Randy. Close *friends* ;). Cary and Zachary Scott would be *quite different*! There’s an amusing picture of Randolph and Cary posing in trunks while exercising…

I like how at ease they look – I don’t know why, but the pictures make me happy to see…

Vickie, I thought the same thing, especially in the last photo. There is a physical ease in their proximity and gestures that is so peaceful–one that, to me, makes the question of “were they?” or not irrelevant…

        Take that, Mr. Kaplan. 😉

They look so comfortable with each other and with the world, I think the Perfumed Dandy said something about dignity in another thread of comments… But it applies here as well. 🙂

I know what you mean… And regardless of whether they were “special” friends or not – and here’s where I get unnecessarily bitchy all for the sake of a poor taste “joke”! – Randolph Scott was at least better-looking than Dyan Cannon 😉 Bwahahaha! Bitchy me, sorry!

For an interesting compare and contrast check out Dyan Cannon’s book “Dear Cary”, and her daughter Jennifer’s book “Good Stuff: A Reminiscence of My Father, Cary Grant” 😉

Makes “the question… irrelevant…” Ha, Heather that’s what I was trying to say with my “I know what you mean…” comment before I began “amusing” myself! 😉 “Take that”?! You got me, you got me 🙂

    Dearest V
Whatever else may have passed between these two gentlemen, there was certainly a great romance, that is evident from these photographs.
Love radiates out of the images.
As someone who believes fervently in the notion of romantic friendship I have little or no interest in what might have gone on in the bedroom.
That is a matter for them. Though of course harmless speculation is such good fun…
    Yours ever

They look comfortable with themselves and capable of giving and receiving love. That might just be the secret to life 😉

        Dearest V
The Dandy is as certain as certain can be that you’re right.

    love these.

remember the one of them both at the table dining in tennis whites?

    tried to re-create that with many a two-chap-couple 😉

    haven’t quite Got it Yet.

    hence why it’s not a published teamgloria-picture.

    soon…..

    we’re in the Right town.

    for tennis whites.

I know this misses the point of your post entirely, but I absolutely love Randolph Scott’s outfit in these photos.

    • May 20, 2013

Crisp and elegant and well tailored – I’m with ya!

    • May 25, 2013

And, they’ve got “I Get A Kick Out Of You” from “Anything Goes” on the piano and Faulkner on their mantlepiece – I scanned it high res 😉 – they are LOVELY.

The tennis match in the beginning of the video was played at the Los Angeles Tennis Club in Hancock Park. You can see El Royale, the apartment building lived in by George Raft, among other actors. Both the LATC and El Royale are still going strong.

Is the El Royale on Wilshire? Or am I thinking of the Alto Nido?

Randy and Cary actually appear in a short film called Fiesta in Santa Barbara, where they are watching the Gumm Sisters (starring Judy Garland) perform…All the couples are at little cafe tables: Rhea Langham and husband Clark Gable, Robert Taylor and Binnie Barnes…and the handsome Grant-Randolphs!
