He directed six movies that were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Lawrence of Arabia and The Bridge on the River Kwai both won, and he also nabbed Best Director statues for those two films. But Lean sometimes said the movie that meant the most to him was the 1955 romance Summertime, starring Katharine Hepburn.
