Cagney played a supporting role to Edward G. Robinson’s lead – I’ve never seen it but there’s supposed to be some pre-code naughtiness – a Warner Bros. gangster film from 1931 – when they used real gunfire on set. I shudder to think.

    Real gunfire!! Holy Moly! It looks to me like there is some hanky panky going on there…. are those girls….working?

      William Wellman said in an interview they used live rounds in “Public Enemy” and when you see bullet holes in walls and gunfire taking off chunks of buildings it’s the real deal. Oh, the stories I could tell you of working girls – but I’ll have to save it for our walk.
