Love these pictures, and you’re so right. And, in light of the recent mockery directed toward older actresses — it’s a delight to see her happy and certainly ahead of her time in her attitude toward Hollywood.

Well; I just entered my (late EEK) sixties!!! (67!) And I felt awful for some of those beautiful women who have been botched
by plastic surgeons. At the “awards”!! It is a culture, and some smiles have been “lost”!
I went to a luncheon last year; and people I have known my whole life; I honestly, did not recognize until they spoke! I recognized their voices! I think they like they way they look; I was just heartbroken. I didn’t think they looked “young”; they looked “odd” to me! Oh well!!
I can’t imagine… you recognized their voices… That’s just shocking. I wonder if people who go to the same plastic surgeon end up looking similar to each other. I’m getting the chills just thinking about it! When I come up to see you and your shop and have tea (and deliver the novel) we have to talk about something less scary 😉 .

I keep a fashion inspiration tumblr where I try to represent people (esp women) at different ages. I find it’s easy to find great pictures of women under 40 or over 60 (the latter especially, since Ari Seth Cohen’s Advanced Style blog), but there’s a no-man’s land between. This is very sad to me, as I find these are the decades incredibly beautiful. During this time, it’s difficult to describe women as “cute” or “adorable” (descriptors we tend to save for the young or old). More likely. these are the ages when women look really strong–both in feature and personality. Why are we not documenting this more?!

It is peculiar that women “strong-both in feature and personality” aren’t represented as they should be. I think the reasons why would fill a volume, and have something to do with patriarchy, objectification, and market forces… 😉
