“The Hateful Eight”
The glory of 70 mm filmmaking resurrected in the service of a vapid one-note narrative, that devolves into a prolonged finale of exploding meat bags.
That said, I’ve seen a number of films this year that were excellent — this just wasn’t one of them — and it was particularly disappointing that such a beautiful method, mothballed for 50 years, made its comeback with this.
I feel I should light a candle and pray forgiveness from:
Fred Zinnemann
William Wyler
Otto Preminger
Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins
David Lean
George Cukor
Akira Kurosawa
and
Stanley Kubrick
