“Someone told me there’s a girl out there with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair”, Led Zeppelin, “Going to California”. Okay, she’s french, whatever. I’ve never been a fan of Bardot (she’s good in Le Mepris/Contempt tho’) but I like that image. My adolescent self’s picks for women with Sixties Look would have been Jane Fonda in Barbarella (the skeevy Vadim connection!) and Raquel Welch in Fantastic Voyage or Fathom (big, big hair!). Don’t judge me!
Then and now my exemplars of sixties style would be Audrey Hepburn (o’ course), Julie Christie (the more tousled natural look in particular as in Billy Liar but also the heart-melting peasant-glamour of Dr Zhivago) and Diana Rigg in The Avengers or On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. All of those ladies were the epitome in real life too, so I’ve seen tho’ I wasn’t around in the sixties; well, not in this life, at least ;))

Okay, Mister – what was the name of the movie Raquel Welch was in that featured roller derby?

All she had to do was to look beautiful, and she did! All those freckles!

The daisies were what grabbed my attention, it’s so “flower power”!

    Dearest V
And they say that the 80s were the years of ‘big hair’.
My goodness she has a garden growing on her head!
    Yours ever
    The Perfumed Dandy
PS Isn’t it lovely to see a young lady who hasn’t been airbrushed?

And, what a garden! I love the individuality expressed by all these ladies of the sixties, esp. the unaltered features, gorgeous!

Wait…wait…Roller derby…hmm…good trash… Something City Bomber? Can’t remember the city’s name. Agh. (Checks Leonard Maltin’s Movie Encyclopedia… Comes back…) Kansas City Bomber! Ha! Two thirds right… Damn my memory. Lady, now it’s on 😉 You almost got me but… not quite, my senility didn’t entirely let me down. Am I revealing my liking for junk? Ha.

Too much of the wrong color in this particular photo. I think liked her with her blonde hair…
I do respect her as an animal rights advocate. I think she’s done a tremendous amount of good. I think she was one of the first “celebrities” to take up this cause and devote her life to it. I admire that.

It is red, isn’t it? I should find a picture of her now, I also respect her for not having five facelifts 😉
