35 million years old, and still…

Yes. The rose is about 35 million years old. Vital, varied, with parts of its family all over the world. The name itself is French, from the Latin, and then it traces it’s lineage back to the beginning of language . In Old Persian it’s wrd, in Parthian it’s wâr. Don’t ask me how to pronounce it like the ancients, I will just tell you in all its incarnations it has symbolized love and peace.

On this Father’s Day I wish you both, and give you the wrd according to Robert Frost:

The Rose Family

The rose is a rose,
And was always a rose.
But the theory now goes
That the apple’s a rose,
And the pear is, and so’s
The plum, I suppose.
The dear only knows
What will next prove a rose.
You, of course, are a rose –
But were always a rose.
