There are stairs from street to street all over Beachwood Canyon. I had a friend who counted them – I think she said there were four hundred (stairs, not stairways) – she used them to get in shape for her wedding gown. (Lord, children, she was fit!) Here’s a picture of some Beachwood Canyon stairs from the 1920s.
