I was thinking about that salty vernacular (confession: which I sometimes employ) and I speculate he picked it up while serving in WWII — very colorful and odd word combinations, and a bit dated.
Marvellous. Salty vernacular should be used more often.
As long as there aren’t children around, or as long as you’re not a child. I remember unconsciously mimicking my pop and catching red-hot-hell from my teacher when I was seven. It was a quick lesson in proper usage and decorum.
