Oh wow! That’s a helluva photo. I love the composition and that incredible shadow. It’s stunning.

Yes and as you know I can quote Vida’s nasty “I hate you mother” speach.

      • April 22, 2013

I’m going to have to head up to SF for a screening and a command performance šŸ˜‰

    So Striking.
The title brings to mind Nat “King” Cole singing “Stardust”. How I love that song…

    • April 22, 2013

“Stardust” – you’d think I’d get the spelling right, it was my parents’ song šŸ˜‰

That’s touching. Your parents had wonderful taste!
Stardust, Star Dust, Schmardust, what’s a teeny mistake between friends ? šŸ™‚

One stunning, glamorous pic! Kudos, Vickie.

She looks stunning here. I love this photo!

I’ve always been curious about her eyebrows. The older she got, the thicker (and thicker!) her eyebrows became. Not that it matters.

    • April 22, 2013

Penciled in? I think they must have been…

Silverscreenings, oh yes, I totally agree about Joan’s eyebrows! So strange. “Not that it matters”, true, but… šŸ™‚

Iconic beauty… Any ideas as to her favorite perfume?

      • April 22, 2013

        Well…
Apparently in later years, you guessed it… “Youth Dew” by our Estee. Also Royall Lyme, a bargain basement male cologne with just one note and Lanvin’s Spanish Geraniums (I’ll have to check if this ever existed or if the assertion is an error).
Though in an interview in 30s she claime Jungle Gardenia as her absolute fave… not sure if you can still get it? Originally by Tuvache, it passed to Jovan and then in the 50s to Coty… but it’s not listed in their catalogue anymore.
So.. that’s Joanie nailed down scent wise.
        Yours ever

If I may say so, you are dandy indeed. Thank you!

      • April 22, 2013

You may indeed say that, The Dandy couldn’t possibly comment…. he blushes though.

      • May 10, 2014

Egads… “Youth Dew” – that was my grandmother’s perfume! Hard to imagine Joan Crawford wearing something that my grandmother could afford. I always pictured her wearing exclusive, designer everything.

And drinking Coca Cola šŸ˜‰ .

    • April 23, 2013

She cracked her way into the firmament with iron ambition – and the rest is history šŸ˜‰

      • April 23, 2013

raising a mug of decaf over here to Joan.

      • May 10, 2014

And when you see “cracked”, read “slept”…. not that there’s anything wrong with that…. *wink*

      • May 10, 2014

ā€œI need sex for a clear complexion, but I’d rather do it for love.ā€ Joan Crawford!

  8. April 24, 2013

Thank goodness tg had you on her “to read” list. My oh my did that make my day…They don’t make ’em like they used to…

And aren’t things beautiful in Provence? I think I’m now following your blog via Google (I’m not very tech savvy) – here’s hoping and my best from LA!

      • April 24, 2013

Oh that is very kind of you! And I am hopelessly techless too. Perhaps it is why we enjoy the things we do?
And yes, Provence is just about perfect at this time of year–and I know how fortunate I am…
