I love the angle, the pose, the setting, the clothes…but perhaps most of all I love the challenging expression on Ms Oberon’s face. Magnifique! I don’t even need to mention the use of light on both the subject and the surrounds…
Oh, Ms Lester you have such PERRR-FECT *taste* 🙂
Have you ever seen “The Divorce of Lady X”? I think you might like it.

Vickie, your comment about the placement of the hands is very astute. I may be wide of the mark but I think he appreciated the beauty of women’s hands (gloved or not!) as he appreciated all of women’s beauty and knew how to bring it out in an artistic but somehow unforced way.
Talking about ladies’ hands reminds me of that delightful image of yourself and your LOOMING yet delicate hand that you posted recently. See, it’s all connected! 😉

I did also notice in all the poses the placement of the hands is very important… and telling.
You are spoiling us today…
I hope so!

As George has pointed out… “what an angle”!
And “what a look” to boot.
Not to mention that hat.
Divine.

She was such a beautiful woman. Gorgeous photo.
A beautiful woman who was accompanied everywhere early in her career by a Chinese maid – her mother…
Is it just me, or could this also be a portrait of Meryl Streep (early in her career)…???
I see it — the narrow bridge of the nose — the look of the lips… Well spotted!
