One forecast group expects the coldest third week of February on record in the eastern United States.

Why is this happening?

Partly, it goes back to last fall. In Siberia.

“There was a big ramp-up of something we call the snowfall advance index during the month of October in Siberia,” Mr. Goodman said. Researchers have correlated it with severity of winter in this corner of the globe.

Just remember: In 31 days, it will be spring.

On Valentine’s Day, it was -30°F in Michigan where my Mom lives. And because she is a true Lady, she still wore a skirt out to dinner. These are some crazy times we live in…

  2. My daughter lives in Cambridge, Mass where the snow is deep and getting deeper! – and here in London we had a day that felt quite spring like with sunshine, and flowers peeking up all over the place…

It used to be that whatever weather happened on the east coast of the States came to us about a week later in a more moderate way. Now that the gulf stream has moved that is no longer the case….yes everything is crazy.
