This is the first photo I’ve ever seen of her where she looks like a “regular gal”. You can even see where her real eyebrows are. Great shot!
That’s the first thing I thought, too. There are a lot of snaps from that period where you see through the “star” to her heart and humanity—she was amazing.

What a marvellous photo of her. Several years ago around Memorial Day, I stumbled across a documentary about Dietrich’s war work. Incredible gal. I’ve always liked her, but loved her after learning what she’d done to bring joy and smiles to men like my grandfather.
