When I am benumbed [14th c.] by the news I just adore [14th c.] a deep dive into language.

How is everybody? Another few weeks of summer and then…?
I have been in a mood [12th c.]. Though I’ve tried to keep focused and continue work on my novel in progress. This past week we’ve been dealing with a roof rat infestation (I would plant a veritable forest under the eaves of my house, and a glorious wisteria vine—that I now have axed—otherwise know as a rat highway), and I am trying to channel my energy constructively in response to our present political situation…
At times like these I like to remember the words of Billy Wilder, “the truth always reveals itself.”
May your Sunday be sweet, V.
Oh no! So sorry to hear about the “rat highway”. It sounds like grim business.
Thank you for the different plural forms of film noir. I’ve always wondered how to write “film noir” in the plural sense, but have never bothered to look it up.
The rats that live on the roof, while still rats, are kinda cute…big ears, big eyes, small bodies with haunches that resemble a kangaroo (well, a little bit)…the trouble is they get under the roof tiles and find their way into the attic space where they chomp on electrical wiring. My husband was not amused when I named them Bertram and Bettina, but they seem to have scuttled off now.
The problem is the time it takes for the truth to reveal itself. And on that cheerful note, I hope there are no more rats! xx
I couldn’t agree more, and the thing is the truth very often is staring everyone in the face from the start, yet they choose not to believe it…
I read your mother, Benedicta Leigh’s, autobiography, The Catch of Hands, in one (couldn’t put it down) go — brilliant! I will write you a proper email tomorrow.

As to the garden, mostly what’s left in the front garden are nicely pruned fruit trees. I’m thinking masses of white roses and blue salvias to fill in, and nothing that gets too tall 😉 .
