Today I’m taking a short break as I’m discussing publishing a novel of mine with some charming people – I’ll fill you in if the chips fall my way – actually, I’ll fill you in either way.
Over the weekend we’ll see where you might have had a swell Valentine’s dinner in Hollywood in the 1940’s – and we’ll glance at the menu at a dinner honoring Albert Einstein in Los Angeles in 1932. And, if you were stuck working on Valentine’s at MGM the food from the commissary wasn’t half bad, as you’ll see.
And, we’ll do a little Valentine homage to love that lasts (in a very tough town for romance) featuring Anne Bancroft and Mel Brooks, Paula Prentiss and Richard Benjamin, and Frances Dee and Joel McCrea.
Pictured here is a forgotten Hollywood great, Ruth Chatterton; Broadway sensation, Movie Star, Aviatrix, and… Novelist!

Have you ever seen “Dodsworth”? Hers might be the one of the best film performances of all time. Thanks for sending me good luck – it was just the ticket! Three cheers for you and all my best, V
Oh, absolutely! When a person thinks of Ruth Chatterton, chances are the first film that comes to mind is “Dodsworth”. She is incredible, and it is one of the best book adaptations I have seen. I’m a Lewis fan, too, which probably helps. I am glad that things went well for you today. May you have continued success!

Ms. S.K. – it’s going to be an adventure in a publishing world that’s being turned on its head. And, I think you and I are part of what’s giving the establishment vertigo. Yeah! 🙂 Okay, here’s the part where you’re going to hit me on the head with a frying pan. You know as much as I do about what’s going to happen to Billie, I only got half way through that novel before I was told by the powers that be that I had to hop online. The first novel I wrote is the one that’s being published – but I promise Billie will reappear when the dust settles.

That photo is actually Joan Crawford… She did have a very Ruth Chatterton look in her early years!
